MORAL AND THEOLOGICAL VIRTUES. FROM MORAL THEOLOGY TO SOCIAL ETHICS. STUDY ABOUT

Our scientific study of moral and theological virtues comes in a new English expanded translation published at our Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in a special post-secular but also COVID-19 period in 2021. The post-secular period is looking for a new place for religion in today’s society and thus reflects on the topic of virtues. The COVID-19 period, in turn, showed the virtues and minerals of both individuals and groups of society, except for the size and failure of individual nations or transnational unions. After a complicated period of negation and subsequent rehabilitation of virtues in the last century, our work tries to compare the classical approach to virtues with the works of modern (mainly German) authors. It is simply because in the area of ​​Central Europe after the fall of the communist regime, thanks to several personalities (eg Oto Mádr) we got to this literature and after studying in Switzerland, but especially in Freiburg, Germany, we tried for more than 10 years for the Slovak academic community to mediate contacts with the Austrian and German academic community of moral theologians and social ethicists. This extended edition is based on lectures given for the Mater Ecclesiae Institute at the Faculty of Theology PUST in Rome. Finally, let us realize this year of thinking about Pope Francis’ encyclical letter Laudato Si´, which celebrates its 5th anniversary, also because of all the Signs of the times we experience, how important it is to know how to use virtues in the transition from individual to social ethics.
